Not sure how new it is, we designed one into the mud room when building the house 10 years ago. It’s really nice to have, you’d be surprised how much you use it.

The pet store ones are $35 here, I’ve never seen one for $5.

Cheaper version is a hot and cold outdoor faucet. We have one on our patio.

I say every day that I want to build an addition to our little mud room for this we have to wipe down her feet almost every time she comes in (our weather is a cycle of snow, thaw, mud, puddles, snow, thaw.. ) and on the muddiest days, I have to get her into the tub to hose her down. It would be awesome to have a dog wash shower right inside the back door!

Who wants to put their dirty dog in the car? Then you have to clean the car too. Also some dogs are not social or have a hard time getting in and out of the car.

I think if you have a huge, expensive house, why not? Otherwise you just get giant expanses of space. I have a little house so we just hose the dog in the driveway when he is muddy. But if I had a mansion in Bethesda and the housekeeper is washing the dog every week or whatever, sure!

And here I was thinking the shower referred to a party, like a baby shower. I read it that people were having "dog showers" to get gifts when the dog is adopted into its dedicated home!

We just used out tub or outside hose, but I would have never taken my dog to a place to be bathed by someone else. It woukd have stressed her out too much. She hated baths as it was, but at least we could do it quickly.

I can see the value of a raised sink/tub in a mud room. I do not understand the shower.

I think it depends on the dog's activity. We have a beach house and the dog goes in the salt water a lot. We use the outdoor shower as a convenient dog wash. If you are talking about a monthly bath then the diy place makes sense. If you are talking about multiple baths a week then maybe not so much.
