Luckily the nipple shield only lasted a few weeks for us. My LC suggested starting the breast off to get a few drops of milk out before putting the shield on, so baby could smell milk and know it was time for nursing.

OP here, I do all of this, I have 4 shields ha, but two of them are in different sizes. I like the Medela one the best b/c it sticks the easiest.

All of these responses give me hope, I'll stick with the shield until her mouth gets bigger. I just wish she was better/faster at getting the milk out.


I would still try other brands and shapes because maybe she'll latch on to those and be able to pull out more milk with a different shape or material.

Also, if she's not getting anything on one side, maybe you need a different size for each side.

She just got a lot of milk from my other breast with the shield. it took 30 minutes though....

OP again, she just used it for 40 minutes on ONE breast and I swear she didn't suck at all. Like it's just a pacifier to her. I didn't see any milk in it when she'd unlatch. So frustrating
