He identifies as a Prius owner

This is a first. I don't think I've ever heard something so silly in my whole life. I would LOVE to see a picture of your husband.

I love my prius prime. I got the thing for 18k after federal and state tax credits. Plus it gets HOV sticker use. I use the electric engine for drive to work and 3/4 of drive home. I cannot use a fulltime electric engine as I am out of range. I LOVE the car! have him check it out. I bought it after looking at Tesla, leaf, kia. I just liked it.

Because otherwise he'd have a fully electric car.

NP here. I'd love a fully electric car. I'd also like charging stations where my car is parked all day, and perhaps my commute to magically shorten, so I could do it on one charge (outside of the Tesla, which I cannot afford). I actually do care about the environment, just haven't developed magical powers yet.

OP, I like the look of the Kia Niro also, and am considering one.

Your DH defines his identity by what car he drives? Ok....

+1 buy the Tesla. You won't regret it.

I decided on a Kia Niro instead of a Prius. It's a really great car.

My second choice was a used Leaf or Bolt, which you can get for a song. My commute is just a bit too long for their range and I don't have convenient charging at work.

Yup. Toyota has beefed up the engine since 2007 - it now has much better acceleration.

If your husband wants a really nice small suv, have him test drive the RAV4 Hybrid XSE. Really sporty styling, multiple AWD driving moods, and really awesome acceleration @ 40mpg

Are you really getting 40mpg? I’ve had both Ford and Toyota hybrid SUVs and mpg was never as good as advertised.

That's what the computer was showing when we test drove it. We ended up going with a fully loaded Subaru Outback, which was $8K cheaper and had a significantly larger backseat.

Hahhaah I was coming here to tell OP to just give in and get a Subaru - it seems to be the car that all former Prius owners end up in. Nevermind the terrible gas mileage, Subaru must have hired the same marketing team as mid-aughts Toyota did for the Prius, because it's hitting all the same consumers.

Or should we upgrade to a hybrid in another car?

I’d consider upgrading to a new husband

I would check out electric vehicles or get another Prius or Honda Insight. The Honda actually looks nicer.

I was looking at hybrid SUVs but the mileage doesn't seem to be worth the extra cost to me, especially if he's already ok with a smaller vehicle like the Prius.

Now was this his car identity assigned at birth, or does he choose to identify this way? Just curious.

If he really cared, he'd take public transportation. From his small house in a walkable neighborhood, furnished with secondhand furniture. And countertop composting.
