No, but too many parents are shrugging because they are misinformed. They remember a mild high from their own youths. Or they personally have a puff or two before bed as fifty year olds. They are not thinking about a completely baked out 14 year old brain.

I grew up near Berkeley. Everyone I knew who was a frequent user was self medicating for depression, and they all lost years of their lives to pot. It was like pressing a pause button, because all of their motivation was gone. I went away to college, worked a bit, then went back for grad school. I went into a pizza parlor, and there were the potheads from my high school, working the same job they had in 10th grade.(These were people from college educated homes).

I don't care. Kids with competent parents will have their heads screwed on straight and will either use weed sporadically or not at all...just like alcohol.

Are you an actual Wilson parent and did you talk to an actual Wilson teacher or are you a troll?

Marijuana was widely available when I was in High School 30 years ago and lots of people used it so I'm skeptical there is a big change - I have a 9th grader at Wilson and in discussing this with other parents most of us agree that in our UMC demographic there is way less pot smoking (and drinking) going on than when we were in high school. Or maybe our kids are somehow hiding it better but I'm skeptical.

In any case please let us know where it is for sale all around the school -the way this post is written I suspect it was written by a private school parent from MD freaked out by what they see out the window of their Lexus when they drive through to and from dropping their kid at GDS or SFS or StA - I walk with my ES student through Tenley twice a day and don't ever recall smelling marijuana - my biggest concern is all the littering from people eating at Chic-fil-a.


I am a Wilson parent. And yes, it different than when we were in high school. Kids wake and bake in Fort Reno. You can smell weed in the halls of school on kids coats and sometimes from bathrooms. Weed is sold everywhere— inside and outside the school. In Panera Bread. Parking lot Whole Foods. Kids hide in parking garages and in fort Reno and then they walk around the neighborhood. The vestibule by the security check has an overwhelming smell of weed in the morning. If you don’t have a teen in this environment you have no insight into how its effecting teens today.

I’m writing this to make people aware that it’s a serious problem and getting worse.

Vaping is bad for you. Smoking seed at 16 is bad for you. These are not mutually exclusive. I don’t want my kids smoking cigarettes so why would I want them smoking weed?

How is smoking pot better than vaping?! You’re still putting chemicals is your lungs. And please don’t reply that pot is natural because it isn’t regulated so you have zero idea of what is in it.


It’s the addictiveness of nicotine. Vapers will be hooked for life or have an awful time quitting. Teen pot smokers, like generations before them, will use for five or six years, then quit or use infrequently.
