Not OP- when we were at BASIS we were never informed of a chat. There was an informal one that we didn’t learn about for some time. Maybe things have changed?

Yes, they have. The Whatsapp threads are now official. They are publicized by the school. There is one for each grade and one for the whole school.

I'm the poster you're replying to and you are making my point for me. DCUM is filled with people who don't attend the school or who may have years ago (see, YOU). OP was a fool and/or drama queen to have asked this question in DCUM.

Thanks for your support!!!

The chats are huge, the school makes a very big effort to get everyone on them and they are VERY active (like comically active, with parents stressing about various assignments or egging each other on about complaints). But they are very useful.

This. The amount of stress on kids for comps is directly proportional to the experience and preparation of the teacher. I'm looking at you, 6th/7th grade physics last year.

While I get that there is value in testing like this, it feels too much for 6th grade

I think it's a good experience to feel that stress and then take the test and see how it all goes. It teaches kids not to run away from stress but to push through it. It also teaches them to prepare. Everything I've ever done that really mattered involved the chance to prepare, stress and nerves, the chance to run away, and then perseverance. Being prepared and then doing something well is what leads to accomplishments.

That said, I know BASIS is more stressful for some kids than others. Parents have to make the call whether or not it's worth it for their kids. My kid is fine.

My kids have always found the pre-comps and comps much easier than regular tests. They also do so much in-class review that kids should be well prepared. The only kids who need to be worried are the ones who have been struggling all along.

It's annoying to have high stakes testing in 6th-8th, but it prepares the kids well for the much higher stakes testing in high school. Thanks to the comps, my kids have been able to handle APs and SATs without getting nervous.
