I waited until after high school but went to the health department with two different friends; one for birth control and one for a pregnancy test. Didn’t seem like it was worth the hassle and stress to me, so I waited. It helped that I’m the youngest in a big family and became and aunt when I was 7, so I knew first hand how much work kids are and how hard it is to have them when you’re young and broke. It was a hard pass for me.

I delayed sex until post high school and I think I married young at 27. But I also had plenty of time to meet other men. It’s not a race and I’m glad I waited until I was more mature. And I definitely, definitely don’t regret not sleeping with any high schoolers.

Many people meet their spouses in college. I don’t think that’s really young. We got married at 26 and 27 years old. So...same as you. Not sure why you felt defensive when reading my post.

Not defensive. Just, counterpoint, you can get “experience” and marry young and also delay sex.

If you delayed sex, you got less experience than if you didn’t. That’s just a fact. Not saying it’s right for everyone, but I have no regrets when it comes to my decisions.

Stats show about 45% have sex in high school (most near the end of high school) and the rest in college or later

I was 18 and had JUST graduated but I don't regret it all. We were in love, he treated me so well, and we are friends to this day.

I went to a fairly small high school so everyone I slept with was from another high school, never from mine (didn’t want rumors and gossip). Absolutely no regrets I had a fantastic ten years of all sorts of different men before I found the perfect one.

I was 18, and on the old side of my friends group.

I started relatively late, at 21. Due to circumstances of my life, I did not date between 19-21, and the guy I was with at 18-19 would have been very wrong, I am glad we did not do it then. So, no regrets, that’s how my life played out.

Why is there an implication that sex in HS would mean less than great partners or circumstances?

I dated in HS, but didn't have sex with my boyfriends. That said, if I had, I wouldn't have regrets. They were nice guys who treated me well.

I lost my virginity to my college boyfriend when I was 21. I actually wish I had done it earlier and had dated around more in college. I think I committed myself to a long-term relationship too young.

After we broke up, I dated around a bit, but my husband is still only the 3rd person I've slept with. (I've done other things with plenty of people, but not sex).
