Say no, decline. Point blank.
They’re enjoy asking you to host. They’re asking you to attend. If that’s a burden, then say no. It’s that easy.
I know, it’s hard to imagine, but the party will go on without you.
For various reasons, we are hosting a sleigh ride on Sunday. While we had a tentative date, we solidified yesterday with the venue.
I’m inviting people last minute. That includes, by your standard, the “A” list.
