Only bottom-tier shops and gas station garages are hiring former inmates. And those places pay almost nothing. It's piece-work, not hourly. They might average $6-8 an hour or less over a 40hr week.

Our shop requires an associates degree plus ASE tech school, minimum, and bachelors in an engineering discipline is even better. Our new hires start at $88/hr, and if they can pick up two additional certifications in their first twelve months, they can increase their base pay to $110/hr.

Vehicles for Change is two charities in one: inmates become trained mechanics so that the have job skills that allow them to enter the workforce with a decent paying job when they’re released, thereby lowering recidivism rates, and the cars they learned to repair are donated to low income families who need transportation.

Donate it to a school.
