+1. Your poor girl will forever be explaining to people that her name is not Mr. Brian Smith.

That's a fat girl's name, anyway.

So is Darcy.

No, only Tootie, Jo, and Nat compliment Blair.

Haha I think PP was making a Gossip Girl reference.

Maybe it's me, but I always think of Briar as a stripper name. Briar patch and all.

Darcy is way better than Briar

A friend of mine was considering Darcy, and I was a little bummed when they didn't use it

I just googled and Darcy is used in Varsity Blues (the cheerleader that does the whipped cream bikini) and Something Borrowed (Kate Hudson's character in the movie)

+1 Blair and Briar sound terrible together, and seeing them side-by-side it looks like you're trying to send a coded message or something. The English language has other letters. Use them.

Darcy isn't my style, but it kind of "matches" Blair and won't make you sound like you have a speech impediment when you're yelling on the playground for the next decade.

It does match - they're both pretentious and affected.

It is a name. It means "a thorny patch", and was the original name of Sleeping Beauty - Briar Rose.

People my age (47) and older will associate it with different fictional characters.

And OP, I don't think you want your daughter to be associated with Briar Rabbit and Briar Fox - unless you're posting this from Klan HQ.

This is in addition, of course, to Brian (i) being too close to Blair, and (ii) sounding outright stupid all on its own.
