DS Teacher was clear that they would not be handing out an email list for the entire class for privacy purposes. She did say that we were welcome to email her if we needed to contact another parent for a play date or birthday party invite and that she would ask the other parent if it was ok to share their contact info. I was fine with that.

Then the room parent sent out an email with everyone on it and took care of that problem for us....

So, no you are not the only person whose school doesn't share that information.

Ha ha! I have been a room parent for both my kids for several years and that what I did. I would collect the emails from the teacher and then send everyone a long email at the beginning of the school year with the planned celebrations in the classroom (harvest festival, winter holidays, end of school celebrations, occasionally a performance etc), suggested contributions - food or money, and asked people to list their kids allergies etc. Most people really appreciated the email list for the same purpose.

Evite- no question. At least 1/2 the paper ones will not be seen by the parent (at least not before the party!)

Some years we are given a list, some years not. It is up to the teacher. Some years they will not give one out.

Sometimes it is possible to figure out most of the email addresses- look at teacher and room parent emails (sometimes they don’t hide the list). Other times I have asked at parent pickup etc, or know the email from one of my older DC if thrrr are multiple kids (I have 3). if I can get at least half to 2/3 I do an evite for those along with paper invites for all- so that no one is left out.

I hate it when they don’t give out emails!

I did Evite and paper-invite and lots of reminder emails and paper reminders. I have found that sending the invites 3-4 weeks in advance gets better response and attendance. I also made sure that I made the program very clear (Magician at 11 pm, lunch at noon, gift bags and group photo at 12:45 pm) and made clear that parents and siblings were welcome, but that I needed to be told in advance.

Our school has a directory, but not everyone provides their email address, so I plan to send in paper invitations in addition to the elite.

There is a good chance I won’t see a paper invite in my kid’s backpack.

Some years our PTA posts it on the website. I take it and download it as they usually remove it at the beginning of the year and then do't put it back till spring at best. As the room parent I don't get emails. I have to use the PTA or past or send a flyer home and hope parents return it.

I do both emails and regular mail.

They often don’t provide it unless you ask. Our school also has a directory.

We have an online directory, but you have to fill out a form to be apart of it. Ours only has 12 families (out of 23) who have signed up. We do have a room parent, but I'm not sure they have more emails available than the directory.

OP, I'd do both. If you do paper, I'd put it in an envelope so it looks a bit more obvious. We have a folder that goes back and forth each day, and most days it's empty. At the end of the week, they send home flyers and all the work from the week, so I'd avoid that time when it could get lost in the shuffle. But you know the daily paper load from your kid's class.

If you have contact info for everyone, do Evite. You can send an Evite to an email address or phone number.

That entire year we got all Evites except one Paperless Post invite between my K and younger child.

This. So many posts here over the years where parents complained about lack of RSVPs to paper invitations sent to school--when it's very likely those invitations ended up buried in backpacks or crumpled up in kids' cubbyholes etc. Plus: Many teachers won't pass out invitations for you or if they do, honestly, they dislike it. It's something else loaded on their plates. And trusting even the smartest kindergartener to hand out invitations is dicey. E-vite.
