Not sure if the goal is modern or traditional. I'll sprinkle in a little of both.



You can still see some of the brick on the bottom in this one.


If you don't want to completely lose the brick, you could tile the "step..."


I have to show the before along with the after. One of those cases where the entire wall was brick. Very modern tile, but still an interesting idea.



Going into some more traditional ideas now...



A slab would be expensive, but a remnant might be a way to get the slab look without tiling the entire wall.


I like how they dealt with the step.

Agreed. I wonder how they decide which row of trim will be what size. In that one, there’s one layer that’s square. Maybe that’s floor level with the second story and there is wainscoting you there.

I found a lot of examples of tall foyers where trim was added to make the height an asset.
