Don’t let your child play in a poop box.

We had a shared yard with a past rental, and the other tenants were not good about picking up their dog poop. It was frustrating and limited our use of the yard. I didn’t have friends over for play dates because I didn’t want other kids accidentally stepping in poop like mine sometimes did.

If you pick up the poop, that’s fine, but don’t have anyone over if it’s still out there.

And total side note, but according to my exterminator, leaving it in the yard can attract rodents. We don’t have a dog, but our neighbors do and I know they don’t clean up very often. We developed a mouse problem this year, and the exterminator said the condition of their yard was not helping.

Don't worry about dog pee, the grass absorbs that just fine, but yes you need to do a very thorough clean of your yard before hosting any kids. This is a no brainer.

Disgusting. I would not allow a play date at your home. Actually I probably would not socialize at all with a family who’s yard is full of dog shit. What’s the rest of your home like? Shudder.

I don’t want your dog pooping on my property because you’re lazy.

17:28, here you go! Exhibit A of if you have a yard, walks are for exercise, and your own yard is for crapping.

It’s the decent thing to do.

Who says he’s not walking the dog? They have a yard for the dog to go to the bathroom. Why would walking the dog solve the bathroom problem? The dog shouldn’t be going to the bathroom in other people’s yards.

If he picks it up it’s fine. The foxes and the deer and the squirrels don’t discriminate.

If he’s not doing it at home, why would he do it for a stranger?

I’m completely grossed out by the dog as I didn’t grow up with them but my spouse who grew up with giant dogs tells me it’s normal for dog people to have kids playing out there. I asked what they did about poop and he said nobody gave it any thought, and they probably just played around it. (???!?)

Dog people and non dog people, does this sound right to you? Spouse is a germaphobe otherwise so maybe I’m overreacting to the dog poop and pee idea. How do you use your yards if you have dogs and kids?

Animal poop is dangerous. https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/toxocariasis.html

I think it’s gross and don’t understand it. We have a big dog who only poops and pees on walks.

You’ve got to pick up the poop.

Yea, you must be new here. There is a constant group of people on this site that scream how disrespectful it is for a dog to crap in someone’s yard while on a walk. To be clear I am talking about dog poop that is immediately picked up by the owner, not left behind. It’s that your dog’s poop momentarily touched their precious blades of grass.

I walk my young dog and pick up the old dog’s poop daily. I don’t think it’s gross to play in a yard where the dogs go. It’s dirt and grass and germs.

I only pick up about once every 2 months. Our dogs get walks though so it’s not terrible in the back yard. Having said that, if having an outdoor play date I always do a poop pick up before people come over.

This is so weird...

We have a dog, and aren't great about picking up the poop in our fenced in yard (at least once a day walks, but she also goes in the yard). When we know people are coming over (kid play dates or a bbq), we pick it up, but are definitely not getting on a day basis!
