Paying cash for a large purchase like a car is shady AF, and low class.

So in the emails, you said you would do financing with them?

I didn’t say how to pay for it during negotiation. I guess they assume people finance on a 90K+ car. FWIW, I am Asian and I don’t believe in loan.

They get money for loans which is why they push them. Our deal went downhill after they realized we were serious about paying cash and pulled out a bank check. Sales guy got really nasty.

Last car was from Carmax. I showed them them my online checking account balance and wrote a personal check. No forms to fill out, no credit check. Drove the car out right afterwards.

Jeep dealer did the same thing. They did not ask to run the credit check. I was furious that the finance manager started out the conversation with our credit information. They don't need it for a bank check or why ask for a bank check.

Depends on the loan.

You generally get a better price, plus it's easier, to just finance and then pay it off immediately.

We had to get a certified check for our last honda purchase. Was pretty straightforward. We refused the finance forms, but definitely didn't need them.

Get quotes via email and leverage them against each other. Keep asking "Are you willing to go lower?"

Yes but you need to figure out what is the lowest price.

How?

Take the lowest quote you have, and ask other dealers if they will beat it. Continue this until you have a price the other dealers are not willing to beat. Then buy from the lowest priced dealer.
