We went through this OP. Night terrors. If you child doesn't really wake up or make any sense while they have the meltdown that's a tell tale sign of night terrors. Our DS eventually outgrew them but for about a year it was awful. We also had a sleep study done and found that he had mild-moderate sleep apnea

Zyrtec poster: thank you for saying this. My DD was taking Zyrtec and someone here said it was linked to anxiety. We realized she’d been having crying fearful meltdowns for all of allergy season. Now, in hindsight, I realize it probably also triggered her night terrors, which went away when we stopped the zyrtec. Thank you!

More sleep/earlier bedtime solved it for us. Took a week to take effect and then we maintained the new bedtime.

A weighted blanket helped my DD. It didn’t stop it but seemed to reduce the frequency.

My niece had night terrors and the doctors linked it with her allergy medicine. I think she was taking Zyrtec.

We had that! DD went through it for 3 month periods from 2ish to 4. She’s mostly grown out of it at almost 5, but once in a while the episodes come back if she’s been sick or had a fever. Hers were night terrors but didn’t necessarily match the descriptions I read online- a lot of almost-lucid babbling and sometimes just inconsolable sleep-crying. Good luck. It’s awful but most of my friends had similar things and all of our kids have outgrown it. By the way, we tried tons of things to “fix” them, but only time helped.

My DC had night terrors. Usually after getting over an illness or when we travel.
The last one DC had was maybe when DC was 11 or so? DC was getting over an illness. Hasn't had one since. DC is now 14.
