I do that too but there are times when it is simply easier to say I need to go to the bathroom and walk away.

I've trained 5 y/o DS to start calling him out on it after about 10 minutes.

Me. When I walk in the door in the evening. Usually I’ve picked up my 5 yo and taken him to a playground etc so we have had our bonding time. DH gives him dinner while I hike up in the bathroom. I’ve taught kid not to barge in but need tips on how to get him to stop yelling “are you pooping or peeing???”

Yes. I have trained my children (2 and 4) to ask my spouse if s/he has fallen in the toilet. They think it's hilarious.

Same. The only place I can hide is at work. Sometimes in my car.

Sometimes, but my kid and the cat and sometimes the dog will come in there, and that is just weird.

Every night after dinner, my dad would go read the newspaper for a half hour during his daily dump. And without fail, every single night after about 10 minutes, my mother would call one of us out of our room to go knock on the bathroom door and ask our dad if he was okay.

I don't know what the hell she was thinking. I kind of want to apologize to him for not telling my mother off for that.

My dad kept a space heater in "his" bathroom. And lots of books. He totally hid out in there, until after about 15 years the space heater died. He never replaced it. He doesn't seem to hide in there anymore. Of course, he also hasn't had kids at home for 20 years, so ....
