Right, don’t forget this is a language tutor OP wants, so conversational exchange during the walk home and snack seems actually useful. However, they would need to be carefully vetted, because it’s not a typical arrangement!

But immersion for those hours after school is tiring and that may create an issue between OP and the tutor/sitter.

But if the parents were happy to pay his tutoring fee for the full 2.5 hours, would he take the job?

I babysat from age 12-19 and never cut up vegetables for any kids. They got yogurts or cereal or the like.

Your best option is to hire a babysitter for the 2.5 hours. Set up a tutor two or three time per week to arrive after your child has had time to relax for at least 30 minutes. If the tutor overlaps completely with the sitter, have the sitter cut veggies for dinner. If the tutor gets there 30-45 minutes before you do, the sitter can just leave (as long as you are ALWAYS on time). Or just have the tutor come when you’re there.

?? I am an MCPS elementary school teacher and i occasionally babysit for neighborhood kids after school. I have never cut up veggies for anyone other than myself! I mean, really. Babysitting = supervising homework (not tutoring -- that's a much higher rate) or watching TV or playing puzzles. I think you are thinking of a housekeeper.

But then, my neighbors have enough class to never ask me to chop their veggies. Sheesh. That would make a great story at school the next day.

Babysitter=not qualified or experienced enough to be nanny, let alone teacher or tutor. Sitters can be asked to cut up veggies for a kid’s dinner. It takes 5 minutes...

Is this possible? Can a tutor also be afterschool care?

Tutors charge $60.00+ an hour and are professional. They are not babysitters.
