Ummm yes. There are more than a dozen such Brent families at Jefferson now.

There actually a a dozen high SES Brent families at Jefferson. Some had other options and didn't take them. To each his or her own.

Good grief! OP, can't you look up schools on one of the standard ranking web sites, e.g. School Digger.com or Great Schools.com and check out school demographics like everybody else?

Hint: Few or no high SES white kids, and no serious test-in system (e.g. Banneker HS in DC) and a Metro area school isn't doing well. Avoid. How could anybody be this clueless.

Get a life. PP posted that without a serious test-in program (e.g. Banneker) and/or a cohort of high SES students (who happen to be mostly white in this particular city) a DC public school can't be that great.

Don't reverse commute. Even if you had no kids I would say its 50-50 living in DC vs living in a relatively urban part of Arlington and sacrificing some (but NOT all) urban vibe for a shorter commute.

Given that the school thing is so much simpler in Arlco, that a shorter commute is more important to a single parent, and that you likely will spend less time going out than someone without kids, I think the case for Arlington is more dramatic.

Where in Arlington will you be working? Rosslyn? Crystal City?

Yes, normally I would not say live in Arlington to anyone (I'm a city person), but, someone with a job there and a 6th grader - live in Arlington. Then again I know nothing about it and it's huge so you may need to go to the suburbs board to learn more.

Op, as another poster just noted, most charters begin in 5th grade, so your chances of getting in somewhere through the lottery are very slim.

If you want to live in the city I’d look at any school inbounds for Deal or Hardy.
