It's not just the below-average stats students getting rejected, which now puts us in a situation. Where do we apply, as the rest of her list seems to be harder admits on paper

Did they apply to both, Emory and Oxford?
What was his stats? Also, I'm sorry to hear this, how hard is he taking it?
Pretty hard but moving on. Only Emory. Didn't want Oxford despite me saying to do so. ACT 32 (would be 33 if superscored but they don't). GPA below their average. No URM but heck a lot of ECs. Expected at least deferred.
To be fair your DS has 25th percentile stats with no hooks. I don't think ED helps that much.
Full pay which people say makes a difference. Further EC would have been utilized by school. Met with one of the coaches. Not recruited but would have made team coach said. Knew it was outside shot but still hits hard. Expected defer not reject.

Anonymous wrote:Who led someone to believe that ECs would get them into a T20 school while GPA and ACT are below average? Your academics have to be nearly flawless for those schools.

What, you think you're Aunt Becky and can buy your way in? Emory is need blind in admissions.

I'm not surprised he was rejected with below average grades. ECs are just that -- extra. They never make up for subpar grades unless the EC is a sport for which your kid is being recruited.
