Hello all,

Found this thread while searching for snowshoe advice. I'm just wondering if it would be fine to rent a place near the soaring eagle lift.

We have 3 beginning skiers (2 in elementary school will need lessons) and will likely spend most of our weekend there on the easy slopes. The rental we found looks like a nice space and enough room for the 5 of us so would prefer to stay here but also don't want to trek to the ski school and be away from most of the slopes that the kids will want to be on after their lesson.

Thanks for any advice!

OP We have been many times.

Snowshoe do not go unless you stay in the Village ie walk to lifts. No car moved.

Here is why Snowshoe is the worst clearing the snow and ice from the roads. I can not tell you how many times we saw an accident upon an accident on the roads approaching Snowshoe.

My kids competed there skiing in college what a pain in the next. ugh. Lot's of times the teams stay in the town Cass at the bottom of the entrace to Snowshoe.

PP thanks for warning on March ski conditions. Was leaning toward a March trip (once kids sport season ends) but may reassess. And agree, Feb is totally booked up.

Going with DH and DS (15), so flexible (can do a room with two beds or something with more space - DS would prefer not to be on a pullout couch though). I can’t ski any more and would hate to be stranded in a condo or townhouse with nothing nearby. Would love something walkable for me and near lifts too (ski in/ski out or close). Going for a long weekend from NoVa, maybe in Feb or mid-March. Travel budget still flush from lockdown, so something nice would be nice!

???? Aren't we already answering this?

+100

Also, it's going to be slim pickings now...you're trying to book a prime location (ski on/ski out) during Feb peak season? Good luck. I don't even think Silver Cr will have vacancies .

Re: mid March skiing, check the trail map and conditions if you're booking as late mid March. They start shutting things down including lifts that are near your condo (and accessible to slopes). Not quite the ski in/ski out you might expecting if you need to take the shuttle to get to an open trail. Fyi (ask me how I know).

Recent OP here. Thanks PP who confirmed the early posts still hold and there is nothing new, exciting or Covid-altered - also good to know we will need a 2BR to avoid the pullout couch. Much appreciated!

All the same places listed here are still the preferred ones. But if you don’t want the second bed to be a pullout, you will need a 2br unit as the studio and 1br units all have 1 bed and a pullout sofa.

Keep in mind, the ski in/ski out places start you at the top of the mountain (not at the base like at most ski resorts).

Do you have a budget? There are different options for different price points.

Op here. No real budget. I prefer a premier convenient location where we won’t have to drive and I can walk to places with my toddler to eat, get coffee, etc.

I believe Allegheny and black bear are unavailable for our dates. Looking to go for the long FCPS weekend in January (Jan 24-28).

Try Highland or Rimfire. All good locations.

Allegany or Highland.

Snowshoe does a horrible job at plowing after or during storms. Stay in village this way can always participate.
