But the bottom line is that most of the players who show up have no business being there. If your son is good at taking the ball and dribbling it (which might be just what DCU is looking for at the U12/U13 age group), then he'll stand out. If his game is more based on things like positioning, movement, and ability to move the ball quickly, it won't matter.

That being said...Skip your futsal game! Go see for yourself. Drive up to RFK on a Sunday, and then imagine that drive on a weeknight...

So what happened after getting scouted? Did you get an offer after a few tryouts?

We really want your son. We lost Wayne and Luciano this year. Your son might fill either spot right away. We promise not to tell the higher powers at BRYC your thinking of jumping ship. Although the ride is just as far as the kids who left to play for Barca. Unlike them we can actually sign you to a homegrown contract next year. Please don't worry if your mom doesn't volunteer to be team manager we won't threaten to cut you here.

As a parent of a current player, it sounded like split practices between DC and Loudoun.

Their practices are in DC for now as they've always been but they are moving to Loudoun once that practice facility gets finished this summer.

Not really a bait and switch. The move to Loudoun has been pretty well publicized. The DC United 1st team, Loudoun United, DCU Academy, and Wash Spirit will all share the facility. They even got the county board to throw in another 10 mil recently to make sure it gets finished.

Well then, thanks but no thanks.

What I love is how he just assumed that the offer was inevitable.

What can we do to change your mind?

DC United is / maybe / maybe not moving to Loudon. While their stated intention in the media and in public announcements is that they are all moving to Loudon, talking with individual coaches and other parents has generated different replies.

Yes we are all moving.
No it's a mess.
No, only some kids are moving.
We will split practice sessions during the week between DC and Loudon.
Etc. Etc.

My advice would be to go to the ID session. It's free. No one is going to require you to join a club or a team or drive to Loudon. You can always say 'no' later. Get some options for down the road because you never really know what's going to happen with DC United's DA program...

Imagine if you had to pay to be interviewed to be an intern and then if you got the internship you had to pay the employer to work for them. What a racket.

Though it is surely a tough blow for the club, I am sure their DA will survive without your son. Good luck.
