I celebrate Christmas and it has nothing to do with a fat white man who lives in the North Pole and gives kids presents. If my kid asks me a question about Christmas, I’m telling them the truth. This is really asinine, and the story only works if you only know wealthy kids. Otherwise, do you just tell your kid that all poor kids are bad kids? Or do you just never cross paths with the popes? Do you go out of your way to make sure doesn’t have any interaction with poor children?

This greatly overstates the influence of the Sanhedrin and Jews in general at time. The Romans were in control of Jesus' fate, not the Sanhedrin. Said Romans also destroyed the Temple, which the Sanhedrin and Jews never would have wanted. Point being that even if the Sanhedrin did vote that way (which is not really clear cut), it seems irrelevant.

Saying "the Romans and the Sanhedrin" is something like saying "the American military and the Monaco military."

Don't be so fragile. There are some (probably a small number overall) of Christians who have told me that I am going to hell for not accepting Jesus, that I am being a a stick in the mud for not celebrating Christmas and instead expressing a preference for a secular holiday, etc etc. I dealt with it and my kids will have to deal with it as well. And you and your kids will have to deal with not everyone buying into their belief system and holidays. If you don't like it, move to an exclusively Christian community somewhere. Sorry that America being majority Christian isn't good enough for you.

My sister told me when I was four. We’re Catholic. I told my preK teacher there was no Santa and she told me to keep it our little secret from the younger kids. I remember feeling so grown-up and special.

Kids are just kids. Celebrate Christmas or not, there is always someone to spill the proverbial beans.
