Leave these people alone for God's sake. Be a decent human being. No one is "choosing" to live on the streets because they're lazy. They are ill, incapable of helping themselves, incapable of following through with all the paper work or appointments necessary to get the very limited resources that are offered, that take forever to come through anyway, etc etc etc. Where are they supposed to go? I heard on the news a year ago about a man who was discovered living in a hollowed out cave-like area in -- Arlington? They arrested him. Good God, the man is living in an underground cave -- that's illegal?
Grow a heart. Be a decent human being who will make it into heaven one day.
Two solutions-
Forced hospitalization for the mentally ill chronic homeless
And opening day shelters for those down on their luck.
Camps should be razed and libraries should not be the alternative.

+1 I wish everyone felt like we do!
Wishing people would live in caves is having a heart? How about lobbying to commit more resources to hospitalization and day shelters? Your definition of having a heart seems a little medieval.
Seriously, WTF? It's compassionate to encourage people to live in these encampments?
So twisted.
Obviously no one is ENCOURAGING them to live there, dolts. The fact is that they DO live there, and simply kicking them out without providing an alternative is stupid and heartless. WTF ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO GO??? WHERE CAN THEY LIVE? WHERE CAN THEY SLEEP? WHERE CAN THEY GO TO THE BATHROOM??? I see on the news when they clear these sites out, just taking away everyone's tents and belongings -- THEN WHAT??? They still breathe and eat and sleep and poop. Where are they supposed to go to do those things?
Until you come up with a good solution, don't "clear out" these encampments. No society that looks the other way once they are made aware of the plight of the individuals like these can consider itself civilized.

+2, it's disgusting what those people are doing to the environment. Look at all the trash. Where are they going to the bathroom? That camp is basically a hazmat site. It'll cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to clean it up and mitigate all the environmental damage.
Agreed.
Maybe the 'kind-hearted' and so-called 'compassionate' PPs can move some of these people into their backyards and clean up after them.

I'm sure they could offer that, with access to their kitchen and bathrooms.
