I'd stay a few extra days if possible. If it was driving distance and we flew, I'd consider renting a car after the few days/child better. If we were supposed to leave, I'd probably just cancel the trip or go when everyone is better. My child got sick once a trip but luckily it only lasted 24 hours or so.

We’re at the in-laws and my 5-year-old has the flu. I’m set to fly home alone with my three kids on Monday while my husband goes elsewhere for work. Praying he’s fine by then and the rest of us don’t get it. I’m not sure what I’ll do if one of them feels sick. If I have it we’ll reschedule. In October I was flying with them solo to meet my husband somewhere and on the way to the airport the same kid said his stomach hurt. We sat down in our airplane seats and literally at that moment he started vomiting. He threw up the entire flight. All the while I was holding my lap infant. Such a fun flight.

My kids tend to stop puking after 24 hrs. I would send a healthy parent home with any healthy kids on time and stay an extra night with the sick kid.
If I absolutely could not wait, I would call in a favor from a Dr friend and get Zofran Rx and pack lots of extra clothes, a towel and gallon zip top bags for the flight.

My younger son has twice had croup within 36hrs of flying home. We took him to urgent care and they gave him a steroid shot that make it stop almost immediately. At home we would wait it out, but urgent cares seemed to be sympathetic to us getting on a plane.

Well, we are currently at my ILs and my 18mo old started throwing up yesterday so I’ll let you know...

OP here, and I remember this thread well. And definitely one reason I get anxiety about illness when I travel.

Ugh I'm sorry. This is basically my nightmare. No actually, being on a plane with this is my nightmare. With a car at least you can pull over or give up and find a hotel or something.
