OP Here, I can think of reasons but I am terrible at telling when they're fake versus not. So I'm looking for ways to figure it out.

Look for horse teeth = fakes.

I got veneers in my 20's. My dentist was fascinated by the discoloration on my teeth from a childhood medication, so he volunteered to do composite veneers on six front teeth for $300/tooth. I took him up on it. It was an absolute game-changer. I had always been really self-conscious about my weird veiny-looking teeth, and never showed my teeth when I smiled. Afterward, the way I smiled changed. My parents were thrilled - they'd always felt bad about how my teeth.

I'm 47 now and I'm looking at having to replace them in the next year or so - they lasted a long time! (and look very, very real because they've never been too big or too white, which are the mistakes people make.)

Exactly. Whitening is a cosmetic decision, fake teeth usually aren't.

Even if it is purely cosmetic, it's like anything else in that you and your doctor decide on the results you want. You don't have to go for the biggest, brightest possible, Hollywood TM, full mouth of veneers just like getting a breast augmentation doesn't mean you're walking out with a HHH cupsize unless you want that. There is no "standard" veneer and they can be totally unremarkable.

+1 Implants, veneers, bridges, etc. can be totally unremarkable and there are many shades of white they can use.

If you zoom in on this picture, you can see his teeth are dramatically different in the front of his mouth than in the back. I think being in front of the TV does require some adjustments to anyone's basic look like more makeup and bigger hair.

I'm thinking of Jim Handley and Amelia Draper on news 4 (which I watch and like, so not criticizing....). Sometimes they wear their fake teeth and sometimes not. They both have serious chompers for fake teeth, or maybe it's just hard to wear them.

If you zoom in on this picture, you can see his teeth are dramatically different in the front of his mouth than in the back. I think being in front of the TV does require some adjustments to anyone's basic look like more makeup and bigger hair.

They're not veneers. They're slip-on fake teeth. A lot of tv news anchors were them now -- and also sometimes don't, which is how you can tell.

Because no one wants bad teeth. Some people got bad genetics, some had a neglectful childhood, some had poor dental care or an accident. I can think of a million reasons why someone would want to get them. I would never judge anyone for wanting to fix their teeth to get them looking better. Sometimes veneers are the only cosmetic option.

In America, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't with regards to teeth.

If you have bad teeth, people ask: why don't you do something especially if you have the money?

If you fix your teeth (veneers, crowns, implants, whatever), people ask: why would you get fake teeth, they look so fake!"

If many of us could go back in time and have adequate dental care, parental care, the right genes, undo accidents... we would do it in a heartbeat. But unfortunately, that isn't possible at this point in time.

OP here, my husband and I were discussing Chris Cuomo and whether his teeth are fake or not. He likely had access to dental care when a child though.

My sister and I had equal access to dental care, but she had antibiotic staining on her front teeth.
