She actually implied it would be in the backpack for longer than a week, unless you can plan for when your emergencies occur:

"but I imagine there may be some days where we are delayed for some reason and dinner plans get all messed up. I want her to keep some filling, shelf-stable snacks in her bag for emergencies but what?"

Yep this

how about because you can't leave a banana in a backpack for a week? Did you read the OP? She is looking for shelf stable stuff to leave in her bag for emergencies.

So... how is thermos of soup or whatever going to fare any better????

They aren't, but I didn't reply to them since they were not rude. This poster said "Posts like this amaze me. You have a ten year old. How about...A banana. An apple. Done."

This was all attitude and rudeness, like implying it is amazing someone got their child to age 10 without knowing how to feed them. It was just snotty.

Just honesty. All this handwringing about snacks. Have an apple.

It was rude, and unnecessary, especially since that poster couldn't be bothered to actually read the OP.

Dried veggies from Trader Joe’s. My kid likes dried carrots and dried peas. Lots of fiber. They also have moon cheese (freeze dried cheese), which has enough fat to be filling.
