My newly 5yr old just stoped asking for help around 3.5. We never taught him how to wipe his butt - he likes a lot of privacy in the bathroom and refuses to talk about wiping or let us show him. Somehow he doesn’t get streaks in his underwear so we let it go and let him do his thing.

STFU. Every kid is different.

I have no memory at all how long I wiped DS when he was younger, but when his OCD emerged between ages 9-11 he insisted on me wiping him. That was one of many OCD issues with him and frankly we were not getting good help from his therapist (clinical psychologist) in handling the OCD.

No one helps them (obviously) so I'm sure they're coming home dirty and are uncomfortable all day. That's gross! This is what you set them up for if you don't teach them when they are young. I'd prioritize.

Not the PP : If anyone is wondering how we know, it's because they smell!

Give me a break. A 4th grader knows how to wipe already. And no, unless you put your nose up to their rear through their clothing, you actuall can’t smell them. You smell BO, not poop. I used to teach 5th grade.

I disagree. I have taught pk-8

Why not put some baby wipes in the bathroom. To help those kids out?

Because it would wreck the plumbing? There's no way they would end up in the trash

Right before she started pre-k, so around three. I knew her teachers wouldn't help her, so I didn't want her expecting an adult's help. She had a few smelly days here and there, but I talked to her about it without making her feel ashamed.

You have no idea how well they are cleaning themselves or even if they went poop. There are no bathrooms in the classroom in 4th grade. Kids have to be dismissed from class to go. Or are you following them in there or something?

Age six. For all three of our kids. We were wiping butts for ten years.

Because it’s against the law for teachers to help wipe students. And no one asked you or wants you to do it. Some kids wait to go #2 at home so they don’t have to deal with it at school. And if they can’t wait, then why just deal with it at school. No big deal.

If it feels ridiculous to you, you should gradually stop as you teach her how to better do it herself.
