You can use bread, bagels, croissants, English muffins. It comes with a recipe book.

As someone who owns this, no I don't think a breakfast sandwich is easier to make in a pan personally.
Plus my elementary school age kids can use this on their own without turning on the stovetop/gas which I prefer.
