Switched from another charter to MV8 and no regrets. Language immersion is definitely a more challenging curriculum but we are all in.

If returning to IT had been in the realm of possibility we would have gladly return

2nd or 3rd grade is when the wheels really start to come off for the schools that aren't performing well as that's when you really start to see drastic differences between the student abilities and behaviors and bullying escalates. Peer group matters more the older the students get, as does leadership, teaching, and classroom management abilities. Not sure if that describes your school or not, but I would keep my eyes open.

You described exactly how we felt at our HRC. We were thrilled and couldn't imagine leaving. Until 3rd grade. Then all the pieces of dysfunction were just too glaring to ignore. I now understand why people just move to the suburbs or WOTP. It's a lot to overcome the systemic issues of most DCPS and DCPCS.

We attended a DCPCS before and after it went through a major transition. With the transition (location / size) the school lost much of what had initially appealed to us.

We moved to our neighborhood DCPS and although they do a fine job in producing high PARCC scores, have a nice community, the school it self is nothing special.

We are planning to go private next year.

We haven’t switched from our EOTP elementary and the grass has... dulled a bit. We were extremely happy up until 3rd. And it’s not that we are unhappy now... but the teachers/pace/work etc. are just.. meh. I don’t know if it is an off year (you are bound to have a few lackluster teachers over the course of 12 years of schooling) or if the rubber has finally met the road.

We switched from one EOTP school to another EOTP school that’s more so aligned with a WOTP school, but feel we made the right choice academically. We (I) do however, miss the parent community and the overall feel of the school, but by going to this new school I’m seeing that my kids were not challenged prior and that’s concerning.

We had a similar experience switching from an HRC to a WOTP DCPS. We're so glad that DC is finally flourishing, but it makes us realize how weak the HRC is in ways that we didn't see when we were there. We like the parent communities at both, but actually prefer the WOTP DCPS community a little more because the parents aren't afraid to provide input. I've seen a lot of retaliation by other HRC parents when parents raised concerns or even tried to help improve things, but most of the parents are still great there.

Switched from our IB, a Deal feeder, for a specific curriculum at a nearby private. We definitely miss the old school and think our child could've gotten a comparable education there--at least that's our impression so far.

We switched to a suburban public school - it is great. School is great, diverse student body, my kids are challenged, and our commutes are shorter. Win, win, win!

I don't know if it is "greener". But it is different. So, far the educational & SPED services are better for our child. Culturally there are some parts that seem better for us and some that are not better or worse thus far. With less than half a year in it is hard to tell long term. But we will stay with our purple grass for a while until it isn't working for us or jobs take us away.
