Agree. Alexandria has something for everybody. Definitely more urban feel. A lot of diversity, grit & a lot of fun. Good location to DC if that matters.

Reston is just very scrubbed, boring and far away. It is safe.


Yeah I'll take "scrubbed and boring" for my young family over "gritty and urban" every day of the week.

What time do you leave? I used to do that commute and unless you are going in on Monday or Friday, the commute time was horrible. It was an hour door to door one way and not to mention all of the tolls.

Monday and Friday are easier though, typically.

I live in Reston and commute to Rosslyn. It's easy. And even easier now that there's the metro. I wouldn't live in Alexandria. Horrible schools, horrible drive to Arlington.

The context implies the commuter is a bus.


“Our commuter” is a bus? That’s the only way it would take 40 minutes. i lived near Reston a couple years ago. Sometimes it took me half an hour just to get to the Dulles Toll Road from my place.

Alexandria schools are more diverse. Their averages are lower but individual outcomes are likely similar when you account SES differences.

To commute only 3x week I think Reston would be totally fine. You could take metro or toll road to make it even easier.

Alex and Reston are quite different, both nice, try to visit each and see what you like.
