My oldest child never got it. My youngest got it at age 3 and was feverish for one day and then had itchy hands. It wasn’t terrible. I had to scratch her hands for 3 or 4 nights.

Then I got it.

I had a fever for one day and some tingly hands and feet and then a few days of pimples all around and inside my nose. It wasn’t that painful. It was not my worst illness. I have had the real flu and shingles and both were about 10x worse.

No, just until they're no longer open sores. Or at least that's our daycare's policy. My baby was out for a week while we waited for the open sores to heal (she was otherwise fine during that time - had a fever for one day in the beginning but otherwise did not seem uncomfortable in the slightest) but the sores didn't fully disappear for like 3-4 weeks.

For those that experienced mouth sores with HFM, what did you use to relieve your DC’s pain?

My child had it nine times. A few were relatively minor illnesses. Several were horrible. Two were unfathomable. I caught one of those. Was the sickest I have ever been in my life.

depends how bad they have it, you will know. my toddler got a very bad case of it, crying cranking scabbing, sores and blisters everywhere, wouldn't eat, inconsolable, the nails came off, it took a week away from daycare from him to be up to going and he still had blisters. i wish they had vaccine for this shiii...it's horrible. and yes we also got it.
