My daughter just did for the first time this year. She has Aspergers, so although some of her friends went alone last year, I didn’t let her. This year she went with two friends from school who she’s known for a few years now. Our neighborhood is super safe though. They ended up getting cold and coming home to pass out candy to other kids. She even dressed up our dog, who had a costume I forgot about.

I probably went alone 10/11 yrs old. I was overall a pretty good kid. But on Halloween, there would always be one kid in the group that would suggest stupid things for us to do. And we ALL did them.

Guess what, kids learn from stupid mistakes.

You are a lawn mower parent.

My 9 year old (4th grader) went out by himself for the first time last night. There are tons of people out while ToTing and it felt even safer than walking around normally.

My almost-10 year old didn't ask, but if she did, I'd let her go with friends, I would trust them to stick together. (No phones.)

10 with a group, cell phone, and flashlight.

15 is insane, and I also live on a main road.

My parents never let us go by ourselves, but we lived on a somewhat main road (residential, but a big cut through street between neighborhoods and people would often speed on it). I also stopped doing ToT when I was 12.

I saw very few kids going by themselves and we live in a dead end cul-de-sac. I did see larger groups of older kids with only one parent though, so I’d assume that was a group of friends.

I think it really depends on the neighborhood and group of friends that are together.

I remember doing so in 5th grade with a friend. But, a group of older kids stole my bag of candy and I went home in tears!! Not actually a big deal in retrospect, but it really bothered me at the time.

At 4th grade, I would take DD to the neighborhood to go in, and I and a couple of other moms sat in a nearby cafe.

First time tonight for my 4th and 5th graders. Rule was they had to stick together (one is way more responsible than the other.) They went with a pack of kids from school and were home within 5 minutes of their curfew. Success!

15?!

Your parents let you go out alone just one year before you could drive alone?! Wow.

For me it was the same as others, 10ish

Yup. We lived on a main road, not in the best part of town. Honestly, it didn't bother me at all. We walked ahead, but the parental unit was in the vicinity at all times.
