I know one. They're in their mid 40s and have been together a long time and have 2 kids. They all seem very happy. It's odd to me but who am I to judge?

I was in one for a couple years in my 20s. As far as relationships went, it was great. The three of us balanced each other out. We eventually broke up because our lives took us in different different (school, work, family obligations, etc...). I will always remember that time of my life fondly.

Today, I know 2 throuples who are now in their late 40s- both have been together for 15+ years. There are plenty of people in unconventional relationships but they keep it quiet because of judgmental people like some of the pps in this thread.

Relationships are incredibly personal and individual. Just because something doesn't appeal to you or didn't work for you doesn't mean that it can't work for someone else.

Yes I try to avoid the unstable people at all costs.

I knew some genXers in three person relationships when I was younger. Everyone I knew was gay though, so they were all-male or all-female relationships. Some had kids through artificial insemination or adoption.
None were married, but this was 15 years ago in the Midwest, so they wouldn’t have been able to get married even if there were only two of them in the relationship.

No way. A relationship with one woman has plenty of drama. Who has the time, money, and tolerance for two.

As a kid, I was in several threesomes of best girlfriends and it always, always lead to jealousy and trouble. Same is true now for my daughter and someone is always feeling left out. I can only imagine it would be even worse when you put three people in a romantic relationship!
