What can we expect from a progressive prosecutor? Are theft cases and other property crimes just going to be nolle prossed or whatever?


Descano made some fairly clear commitments. He won't prosecute simple marijuana possession and he'll prosecute theft cases up to $1500 as a misdemeanor (the current threshold for felony larceny is $500). $500 is a really low threshold nationally, and there's good evidence that raising the threshold doesn't impact property crime rates (https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-and-analysis/issue-briefs/2017/04/the-effects-of-changing-felony-theft-thresholds).

So the answer is you expect a sensible, evidence based approach to criminal justice.

Never secure a conviction? You mean never prosecute a crime..........that's basically what he was running on. It's easy to reduce the number of criminals if you don't prosecute. Of course, that doesn't reduce crime..........

Fahey lives in a house in Falls Church that had extremely ugly green shutters until he bought it. They repainted them a more neutral color. I voted for him based on his good taste in home design. Well, that, plus Descano just seems like a dweeb who could never secure a conviction.

Descano a nice guy? His mailers were extremely deceptive. Trying to paint Fahey as a Trumper when he was really a career employee.

Great! I’ll keep Descano on speed dial in case I get audited But how is one who “interfaces” with CPA’s the best fit to be our top criminal prosecutor? How does that make him most qualified to be the Commonwealth’s Attorney?

Relative to Fahey (someone who has been a Local and Federal prosecutor for 19 years) Descano is inexperienced

Relative to the majority of the Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorneys in Fairfax, Descano is inexperienced

Republican candidates in Fairfax exist largely to give people in the county the illusion of Democracy. They are not clones of Drumpf. I’m shocked that there are any races that Republicans didn’t bother to put in a sacrificial lamb (such as the Mt Vernon supervisor race, and Surovell’s state senate race - both are running unopposed for re-election)

I am no fan of the Republicans, but me and DH went out before work to vote for Fahey. I really don’t care so much about the other races, because they are basically a formality. The Commonwealth’s Attorney race is one that is normally under the radar, but as a past victim of crime, there is no way I would ever support a fringe candidate like Descano.



Descano is a tax attorney and Fahey is criminal with DOJ experience and has been in Fairfax County Court. Do I get an orthopedic surgeon do neurosurgery?
Or a shrink for orthopedic surgery?

Was Descano, the tax attorney, the only one they could find who was not a moderate democrat?

19:19 here. Voted for Fahey. Morrogh endorsed him as did many attorneys in the office. Hope he is a moderate, experienced and an independent as he says he is. I hope I wasn’t fooled.
