It’s not 1978. Freezer meals are not a thing. I can get anything I need to my house in 24 hours. Why stockpile food? It’s actually rude to send people crap that is completely useless.

Maybe we can release the phrase freezer meal from original post? I’m guessing they meant something that’s prepared and can be served right away or stored for down the road.

OP what about seeing if they have a meal train? Even if you’re not close enough to participate in that that will give you an idea of what kinds of food they enjoy.

And I echo the sentiments of the gift cards or sending delivery. The above example of checking in and then sending something right away was brilliant!

One day some friends called us, asked if we were home, and what we wanted for dinner- Thai, Mexican, etc. They sent uber eats to us in 20 min. Very much appreciated!

I'm not sure a freezer meal would have been helpful for me, but I really loved the friends who came with food and ate with us. It was nice to be social after a few days/weeks of being a shut in, and to have a nice meal that was more complicated than we were doing at the time (by complicated I mean main, bread, salad and something sweet). And our friends go to meet the baby!

I've gotten second hand meals from a few postpartum friends over the past couple of years. They run out of freezer space or get too much fresh food at once and can't eat it before it goes bad. Maybe we're all just super nice and generous (kidding!), but I'm sure these friends would have preferred a gift card that can be used the first week back from maternity leave more than another bagged salad and casserole. Uber Eats, Instacart, etc. during the last month of pregnancy would be perfect.

And if OP was my friend and asked me what I'd like/need, I'd say nothing, because I'm not comfortable asking for things. I'm very glad my friends made me meals and brought them over unprompted because I would never ask them to do so but they were very helpful.

Agreed with the pp who said bagels - a friend brought a couple dozen and nice spreads and we loved that and had extra to put in the freezer for later. I don't know if Prime Now does gift cards, but you could also do Instacart.

Ask her what she likes. I don't mean to sound ungrateful but my husband and I are picky and received several meals that weren't our style at all and ended up in the trash.

My in-laws did a mini Costco run for us. It was the bees knees. So helpful!

I loved the bagels, cream cheese, and fresh orange juice a friend delivered. Another friend brought croissants, deli chicken salad, and butter lettuce. Both were so very well received.

Uber Eats or Instacart gift card. Then they can get whatever they want and you don’t have to worry about preferences, dietary restrictions, etc.!

Im the first pp who suggested meals for the 38 weekers and totally agree. I'm 34 weeks at the end of a long miserable pregnancy. I've been sick basically the whole time. I have to make dinner, clean the kitchen and do bedtime for a kid every night. I have two and I actually have a super involved and helpful husband and I treat anyone who brings over so much as an apple or a tray of mac and cheese as a savior.
