Perfect situation would be a start date the second week of August and an end date right before Memorial Day. A lot of the country already does this.
Kids are checked out the last few weeks of school no matter when they fall. Memorial Day has nothing to do with it.

No, they couldn't. They used to start before Labor Day, but then the governor issued an executive order saying they weren't allowed to do that. Then the General Assembly passed a law saying they could if they wanted to. So now they're thinking about whether they want to.

School should could be open the whole time to provide free child care, meals and supplemental education
for underprivileged or kids who struggle.
That way those who don't need as much schooling or want their kids to enjoy the summer because they
are doing just fine at school would not need to be subjected to one size fits all.
