Fwiw SGF always says “we cover it FOR NOW” because it could change at any time. However, I can’t imagine a scenario where it would change mid year. That contract is annually renegotiated. So if they are honoring it for 2020 it really should still be in place for the rest of the calendar year - that said, they are only doing cycles for a few more weeks so you should be asking about 2021. Just know you’ll never get a definitive answer. They can’t promise. They can just tell you the current situation.

I know it seems like putting the cart before the horse to look at birth coverage, but I would still factor it into your calculus.

I saw this. Terrible coverage. If SG honors the FET rate, I plan to enroll in the Aetna plan and schedule the FET for late May. I’ll switch over to BCBS during open season next year to have BCBS insurance in 2021 to cover the birth.

Fed here. That was our plan-to use the Aetna rate with SG, get pregnant in the late spring, and switch to BCBS during open season to cover the birth in 2021. Well, surprise, we got pregnant naturally (total shock) in early 2020. I just delivered a baby at Inova fairfax and was stuck with the Aetna coverage. It was an uncomplicated birth-vaginal delivery-in and out within 32 hours. So far we have about 2.3k in bills which includes the hospital stay, epidural, and baby examination. I’m still waiting on the OB bill and hearing test bill. So, definitely consider/factor in the awful Aetna coverage for labor and delivery. BCBS would have been $300 total I believe.

Does anyone know if SGF honors a negotiated rate for a full IVF cycle as well (as opposed to just FET)? We just found out that my tubes are blocked so we’re trying to figure out how we can afford to do IVF. I’m a fed but I’m currently using GEHA right now. I’d be happy to switch to Aetna if it could save us some $$!!

The update is they are honoring the rate but it could change at anytime. She doesn’t anticipate changes but it could happen. The rate for an fet is $1850 using Aetna.

I said I wanted an FET in 2020. She said they’re honoring the rate-for now. It sounds like things could change in the near future. Does anyone have any insight?
