Yes. The SCHEV data is completely made up. The bottom quarter of the class (athletes, legacies, teachers kids, Z list, TJ, URM, and rural ROVA) is really a 3.6W, not a 4.21W like they publish and it’s an evil conspiracy to keep your kid from applying. /s.
Come on. You know better. You think white and Asian unhooked NOVA kids are getting into UVA with more than .20 BELOW the 25% mark, while UVA is routinely rejecting 1500+ SAT / 4.5 unhooked/8-10 AP NoVA kids? Numerically, White or Asian Unhooked NoVa is the top 1/3 of the class, with white and Asian affluent OOS filling in the rest. You should know this too.
Do you know kids applying to college? Because no guidance counselor— even at TJ— is telling kids they are safe for UVA. Not with a 4.5, and 10 APs, amd all state music and a 15120 and 3 subject tests above a 700. I do know that. And I have seen amazing kids with these credentials turned down.
If you don’t want to believe your kid could get rejected below a 4.0 GPA, don’t believe. But it’s cruel to egg on a kid with almost no chance of getting in. To encourage them to think of this as their dream school and the only place they could be happy. Because there is a 98% chance her dreams are crushed. Do her a favor and help her see that the odd aren’t in her favor, but there is no harm in trying. Leep expectations reasonable. And have a college she can get into and likes lined up.
Your conclusions are irrational, elitist, and racist.
You. Just. Don’t. Know.
You don’t know who the “bottom quarter” of the class is. There is no way for you to know. You are drawing conclusions based on personal beliefs.

Junior year could get all As. In Calcus BC and getting an A. Has a mix of AP and honors this year. But has chosen to stick with a challenging language and Orchestra, no grade bump. So best case GPA at end of this year is 4.1ish. I thought UVA scutinizes the transcript and excuses the B pluses freshman year.
That isn’t right. My freshman had no APs. Orchestra. Brought in an A in Algebra. Took all honors and came out with 3As, and A-, a B+ and a couple Bs and is just below a 4.0W after freshman year. 1 AP this year, all other honors, Latin and Orchestra and PE. She’ll. Be above a 4.0/4.1 easily. Weak freshman year because of ADHD medication issues. Colleges look at upward trends, and will forgive a couple Bs freshman year a lot faster than junior year.
But the 4.0 isn’t right for a full honors load after sophomore year with those grades.. And junior year— still orchestra and language, but probably 4 APs and pre-Calc. Which will bump her a lot if grades stay up.
It looks to me like you have a TJ load. And that’s a whole different conversation.

She may love it. She needs a solid Plan B.
And no one knows yet how EA will play out.
How can you know that?

High SAT (1500)
Good extracurriculars
Rigorous courseload (all weighted/AP classes when offered in all core subjects)
Meh GPA, her weighted is just below 4.0.
UVA is the top choice but I think the GPA is too low. Should my kid wait for a grading period, as senior grades are looking at all As, maybe one B. Trying to decide as transcript requests are due next week.
Thanks for any thoughts or wisdom.
The GPA is way too low for UVA. It's not happening unfortunately.
+1. Your kid only gets a half year credit for admissions senior year. . They manage a 4.4 and they are looking at below a 4.05. A 4.6 1st semester gets them below a a 4.1. WM might be possible with the heavy weighting on SATs. A 4.1 won’t get your kid in even from TJ. And if you kid is below a 4.0, either they can handle the rigor and wind get the 4.3 or 4.6. Or the screwed around for three years.
Do your kid a favor, sit down with Naviance and tell them the cold hard reality before all their friends get in. Then aim for WM— RD with great 1st semester grades (still a reach, but the emphasize test scores more), VT, JMU, CNU, etc. or look at NOVA and transfer.
But you kid just isn’t getting in. It’s cruel to let them spend all year thinking they can.
I’m assuming an unhooked NOVA kid.
But an
We did look at naviance. WM is a pretty good shot from her school for both GPA and SAT.
UVA is borderline/reach with this SAT based off naviance if she can get her grades up above a 4.0.
It is her favorite of all the schools we toured. She had a really rotten semester early on, and has been working hard to redeem herself. If she doesn't get accepted there, so be it. But it does sound like her best shot is to wait for regular decision and throw the dice.
Thanks for all the input.
