My kid is one of those. Perfect SAT scores, 10 scores of five on APs, straight As in an MCPS magnet.
No wringer, no prepping, and I take zero credit. This is how this kid came into the world.
Please, would you share your kid's MAP-M score(s) in MS?

No. Went to Harvard and is the CEO of a company. Crazy smart. I have not seen someone who excelled like he did in so many things and at the same time was very socially adept and a wonderful communicator. He is around 23-24 years old.

if you can afford it, opt out of MCPS in the middle school and go private, while following the MCPS curriculum from their website. Come back again in MCPS at the HS level and take AP courses or go to magnet programs.
Of course, this is assuming that your child has the brains to be above MCPS average, and you yourself are educated.

Yeah, so my kid enjoyed CES, did no external prep... nailed the cogat and was accepted to both programs. I do talk to my child and there were no expectations set... in fact, we talked about how there were only few seats available and that no matter what, middle school was going to be awesome, regardless. The only prep we did was to make sure kid had a good night sleep and a big breakfast. Is that putting a kid through a wringer? I don't think so. Keep rolling your eyes though. It will be your kid in therapy, not mine.

Two kids went or is in HS magnet. Going to the Magnet was never a goal for the the parents and kids. Child one was bored to death in home MS but started to enjoy school after got into HS magnet Child two was slow in speech but came hone one day in 3rd grade announced that he was scheduled to take the CES test. He is in HS magnet now. Not every parent plans every step for their child.
There are so many supper smart kids in the Magnet. Some of them are genius.
There are lots of those kids in the magnet. They balance the academic demands and still play varsity sport or devote themselves to clubs like ROBO. They have near perfect GPAs and SATs. I think the magnet staff who does the selections are really good at finding the right kids for the program. My child loves the magnet, never had any prep and would never describe it as going through the wringer.
