I had an amazing HS, then college girl working for me 25 hrs school year, FT in the summer. Objectively she should have started with some summer internships and maybe her parents weren’t super pleased but I truly treasured this young woman so I paid her crazy amount to keep my life perfect. It all worked out well as I was able to highlight her qualities in every letter of recommendation as she sought first her nursing then, as she happily left us, onto her Masters of degree program. If you want her put the value you place on her into cash. If there’s a way to accommodate her future do that too.

You give her a raise -- obviously.

Accept the crumbs. Maybe she'll have some time. She may be overestimating, at the moment, how busy she'll be with school. She may be available some. Let her know the door is open. Keep in close contact. Babysitting.
