And yes large men behaving very badly, in physical ways, in public spaces that we are supposed to be sharing is unsettling.

I will stick to my solo commute, in the comfort of my auto from now on. Lesson learned. The general lack of civility was disturbing, no need to revisit. Call me a snowflake if you will. Not my scene.

Back to the lily white bubble, no?

If OP doesn’t like crowded subway trains, she’s unlikely to be a fan of rats, urine smells, out-of-control youths, and failing schools.

Oh please. OP is right, and everyone knows it. Metro STINKS. Sure I guess if you happen to be going from Point A directly next to a station to Point B directly next to a station, on the weekend and not surrounding any event that attracts people, not during the summer, it’s fine. Assuming you don’t mind the urine. But it’s far too limited in coverage, breaks between trains are way too long, it shuts down before late events conclude, and rush hour or any other busy period is awful. Sweaty, gross, d&ck to a$$, shoving, pits in your face. All of it such a low form of existence.

Not saying DC is unique among major cities. NY is dirtier but much faster and more coverage. Same with London. Tokyo is cleaner but actually more crowded, though the Japanese make up for it by being small and polite.

Any way you slice it, subways are as bad as it gets. Give me a private driver any time. Or even my own car in traffic if need be.

+1.

OP, I live in the city and WALK everywhere. You're just another annoying car trying to run me down in the crosswalk when we already have far too many cars coming into the city every day.

I agree it’s awful for the planet. No argument from me on that one. More people should ride the trains. Buses, bikes,
Scooters, whatever floats your boat.

The morning commute was great. You almost had a convert. The ride home reminded me of why I dislike public transport.

+1,000 OP is oblivious [/quot

The surprise wasn’t the packed train it was the boorish behavior on said packed train. Poor tink tink.

Of course drivers can be aggressive and awful as well... but a car is a bubble, music, news, hot coffee, comfy seat, if you do something rude or inconsiderate I can call you a crappy name, change lanes and be on my way.

I don’t think it’s a strength issue... more like I found the behavior disturbing because I am not exposed to it on a daily basis. Different strokes diffferent folks. Maybe my expectation are high, maybe yours are low. For $20 a day I’ll pass on the zoo.

It's a bit better on the red line, but then most people are regular commuters, not trying to squeeze on for one day during protests.
