Arlington is not pretty, and has no charm. Even most of 22207. I say this as a (happy) Arlington resident, btw.

I live in Mclean but my neighborhood and most others are not what I would call pretty. It’s very depressing because otherwise it’s a great place to live, but the homes and neighborhoods are not very attractive compared to older established areas of MD or DC.

Long time Tara homeowner. It has never been called "Tara Heights." You might be confusing it with "Leeway Heights," which is a track developement west of Patrick Henry Drive. The civic association is known as the "Tara/Leeway Heights Civic Association."
The prettiest streets are Inglewood, parts of Greenbrier, Harrison, Hollister, Huntington, and parts of 19th, 18th, and 17th Streets.

In nearby neighborhoods of Larchmont and Wynnewood, south of 16th Street, the prettiest streets are Greenbrier, Illinois, Inglewood, Ivanhoe, and Jefferson Streets. Oddly the cross streets are not that pretty.

Check out Westmoreland Hills in Bethesda. Great schools. It's relatively close to Chain Bridge. Depending on what time you leave for work, might not be too horrible of a commute to Capitol Hill/Virginia Hospital Center.

I'd love to live closer to Windy Run, Donaldson Run or Gulf Branch. (Or Marcey park, for that matter.) There are also some spectacular views from Arlington Ridge Road, but I wouldn't want to be right on that street. (or too close to 395.) There are some nice lots that back to Rock Spring park.
