Believe it or not, trader joe's has great lox. It's sold in a very large package where it's laid out in a nice circle, so all you have to do is put the circle on a plate and it looks great. Very thinly sliced, excellent quality. I grew up in NYC and went to barney greengrass regularly for brunch so I have pretty high standards. I only buy it when we're having company b/c it's too much lox for just my family and I don't really like to freeze it since I'll forget all about it.

I am from New York, grew up eating lox and bagels from Zabars.

My favorite local lox is from Costco -yup, it is really really good. They have several different kinds, but I get the kirkland brand which I think is the best. It is sold in a 2 lb package, but now they have divided it into 2 1lb packages, so you can put 1 in the freezer for a later date......so yummy!!!

Chutzpah in Fairfax is an awesome NY deli. Love their lox and bagels.
