Uh they don’t. The school figures it out when a dude with a gun comes in and starts shooting the place up. There’s no advance warning system like for weather.

I'm in ACPS, but yes, we got notification from our school that the drills would be happening over the next few weeks (not the exact day) and an explanation of the protocol and the title of a book they use with the kids.

Then the week of each of the drills there is an additional letter that explains what was in each drill.

The actual answer to your question, which you may or may not be interested in, is that democrats did one thing when they had the house, the senate, and the presidency. The biggest thing of our generation. Which the republicans promptly started taking apart piece by piece.

Trump could do one big thing with gun control. But he won't.

They don't overtly talk about guns, shooting or bombs and infernos for that matter. It's more about falling instructions, knowing what to do if they get separated during a drill (Mrs. Smith's class meets over by that tree).

If there was talk about guns, shootings, bad guys, bombs, etc then it most likely came from the other kids.


Yup. Older siblings are usually the problem.

It is weird to think about but we're actually in a zone. It is one of the reasons why the "new" WW Bridge is a bridge and not a tunnel, which was one of the options presented way back when. A tunnel was deemed not feasible because of the concerns about earthquakes and the cost/process to build a tunnel given those concerns.

My school sends home an email notification a day or so prior. Some of the students think they are "fun". I'm not sure why. Last year when they announced on the morning announcements that there would be a lockdown drill, some of my students cheered. This year a few just said something like, "Yay. Lockdown drills are fun!"

We also receive the notification.

DC is in 5th grade. Their school had a power outage. DC came home and told me they heard a loud noise, the power went out, that she and a few friends freaked because they thought there was a shooter. I understand the need for lockdown drills but I'm troubled that this what our children are faced with.

I got one of these emails as well. Different day for our drill, but almost the exact same email otherwise. Both my kid's elementary and high school sent them.

They are supposed to be silent during a lockdown drill.

OP, I don’t ever recall them notifying us in advance in APS, and I’ve got a kid in 5th grade. They also don’t notify us about fire, tornado, and earthquake drills. They don’t talk overtly about guns, etc either.
