We did same.

FWIW, I was a kid who puked a lot. My parents NEVER hung out with me when I was sick, in any capacity. In our house, when you were sick, you were basically quarantined. We had to stay in our bedrooms and were allowed to use the bathroom and that's it.

I never felt unloved.

For me it depends on the kid. I have one kid who is fine being on her own when she is sick and kind of prefers not having attention on her. For her, I'd make a little bed in the bathroom and sleep within hearing distance like you did. I have another who would definitely want me nearby and I'd stay in there with her. I think what you did is perfectly fine as it sounds like your son wasn't crying for you or needing you right next to him.

Hope he feels better soon.

OP, I understand your unease. I have done the makeshift bed on the bathroom floor for my oldest DD, but I never felt great about it. Now, whoever has a stomach bug gets my side of the bed, since it’s closest to a toilet. My husband usually heads to the guest room while I ride it out with the sick kid. No one sleeps great but it feels better to be arms length from your sick kid.

What you did was fine. My mom would put us on the couch with a bucket and go back to bed. She’s come if we really needed her. I also would make a bed on the bathroom floor sometimes when I was sick, I found the cool tiles soothing

My kids pukes a lot. He gets motion sick, he gets every bug out there - if there’s a bug, he gets it.

So this is our ( unfortunately)well established system. I stabilize him in front of toilet - he’s clean and in clean clothes and lying on the bathroom floor on towels and he new reminded to throw up directly into the toilet instead of trying to perfect his aim from 3’ above the toilet

I blow up our inflatable mattress and quickly make the bed for him. It’s super easy to hose later if necessary. I keep a bucket, Purcell and Clorox wipes bu the bed Andy i layer towels where he’s sleeping so hopefully any disasters can be resolved by just folding up the towel and grabbing a new one.

I also keep a stack of extra towels and sheets nearby in case they’re needed. Then i share the bed with him if it’s really bad so i can sense when the next bout is starting and get him to the bucket or toilet.

If it’s not bad I’ll sleep somewhere nearby

I put the recycling bin next to my son's bed so he can puke in it. Then I go back to bed next door.
