I didn’t date in HS. Still with my first boyfriend—been married 16 years and still madly in love

My SIL and BIL never dated in high school, college or after. They’re 39 and 37. I know they both very much want to date but I honestly don’t think it’s gonna happen. I find them both emotionally underdeveloped and they’re way too dependent on their parents. They also enjoy childish things like YA books, anime and video games. I mean, who knows what the future holds - maybe they’ll eventually develop into normal adults with the full range of adult relationships and interests but I guess I just don’t see it happening anytime soon. I don’t think OP is crazy to be a little concerned.

Are you sure you know about your kids BF/GF?
DS told me her friend is dating but I doubt her parents know ..ab

We know, but it appears from this thread that there are many people who don't date AND who don't have sex in high school. Which is a great thing.

My husband went on his first date at 28. Met me on his second date at 29. Some kids are late bloomers.

I'd actually guess they've been doing it for years and parents are clueless due to the long standing relationship they have. It's a toss up.

I just don't think this is a thing to spend even a second worrying about. My junior DD hasn't dated and I don't think she will. She has a very close group of girlfriends and our family is quite close. She doesn't seem the least bit interested (nor have time) to go beyond those, her school work and her extracurriculars. College seems to be a much better time developmentally to think about dating.

Me. My daughter. The boys who liked me were gross. The ones I liked were not interested. DD thought all the boys were immature. Hates the drama. I married in my early 30s. DD has her third BF in her 20s.

Not sure it was all that weird back in the day either - pretty much my whole extended friend group more or less never dated in HS, a little flirtation here and there, attending a dance with a friend, that kind of thing, but no real dating or hooking up - I’m talking about 30 people off the top of my head. We were the really academic group, lots of activities, somewhat but not terribly nerdy.

DS Sophomore in college never dated anyone. Not a concern of mine. More worried about DD Senior in HS who has been dating someone for a year...

Senior DS. Not even remotely on his radar.

Freshman DD. Already had a boyfriend in middle school. Short-loved and pretty innocent.
