OT but I live that your carpool charges! How did that get started?

So many times people take advantage. Easier to just set an expectation that the person driving deserves compensation.

Not Starbucks! Not everyone likes coffee or Starbucks products. Cash or credit card gift card is a lovely thought.

She declined payment. That’s fine. It’s rude to insist on paying market rate and would make her uncomfortable. Gift card is a good idea. Maybe Starbucks or something so it’s clear it’s a thank you for a favor and not payment for driving, which would make that family uncomfortable.

When I was in HS, I drove younger kids. I was paid $5/week per kid (and that was 25y ago.)

Now, as a parent, it is VERY much worth at least $5/week not to have to drive my kid to school.

If the purpose of the "gift card" is to pay her, I think it would be treated the same way giving her cash would be treated.

Contributing to gas money isn't paying her. Also, I give cash gifts all the time. The fact that it's cash versus a gift card doesn't make it income to them.
