We pay about $1,200 a year, or 100 a month. I would give a lot more if I had the money.

OP, do you want answers regarding other houses of worship? We pay $1,500 in annual synagogue dues and give an additional $5,000 per year to our synagogue.

On the rare occasion that we pray at another synagogue, we try to remember to give to it also, but those are much smaller donations, like $50-150.

I ask because to me there is a difference between doing a seemingly good action because you feel forced to do it, and doing it because are moved to do so, by God, or some other compassionate feeling. Doesn't the latter make you a better person?

10% of my income after taxes and expenses. So if I have $300 of discretionary money left, they get $30. I don't go to church much so it's fair.

We bumped from 2% of HHI last year to 3% this year. Our church is only funded by member gifts and last year the staff had to furlough themselves for a month. It costs money to run a church and we get a lot out of the community.
