+1. When DH and I went to take his dad out for lunch, FIL had wet his pants. We have a daughter with severe autism so we knew the drill. We guided him back to his room and DH changed him while I took care of the soiled clothes. Sometimes love looks like having enough clean, dry pair of bottoms.

I thought pp’s tone was pretty matter-of-fact. I think pp was thoughtful in decorating her room with personal items. Dementia isn’t pretty and you end up just doing what seems to work in the end.

I didn't see any distain. You are reading more into it. The important thing is enough clothing and visiting.

My dad would remove the pictures on his wall, sometimes several times a day, until he settled in. They were all copies, so they could have been replaced if lost/broken. Also we took some of his work awards that he was proud of.

Ymmv, but my dad was a gadgets guy and over the years we brought him several of the solar flower bobbleheads for his windowsill, which he enjoyed.

Tv/dvd player for movies. We kept him well supplied with (fairly innocuous) movies which sometimes were shown for movie night on the large tv.
