Subject: 2005 Prius - replace the battery or be done with it?
If you're in the DC area, check out Triton Hybrid Battery Repair. He doesn't really have a website but has great reviews on Google (not as many on Yelp). The battery on my 2004 Prius (180k miles) died in May. I want a new car but didn't necessarily want to buy one THAT DAY. Also didn't want to spend $3k fixing this car. I paid Sal $900 to recondition my battery to buy me a little bit more time - hopefully a year or two. He has amazing customer service and is a good guy.
Disclaimer - my mileage post-repair is not great (under 40 MPG) so I don't think the battery is in tip-top shape. I know Sal would make it right either by reconditioning the cells again or putting in a different (used) battery (he warrantied his work for something crazy like 25k miles - I don't drive much so that's probably at least 5 years). Need to decide if I want to take it back to him (it's not terribly convenient for me) or just suck it up and make plans to buy a new car - that's definitely in the cards over the next year - I'm kind of waiting on more, cheaper EV options.

I got a free battery at 98k, 2 months before the 10 year warranty expired. If you have a Prius, everyone please do what I did and avoid a costly mistake.
It was at the dealer shortly before the warranty was up. Nothing was wrong with it. They don’t just replace the battery for fun.
