I was alive then and remember it, also read the book Helter Skelter and later saw the movie that was made from that book, so I got every little detail of it.
The ending was bizarre, I guess Tarantino imagining a happier resolution.

He just has too much natural bonhomie to convince as a character like that. Maybe he's too famous to convince, I don't know. But DiCaprio was absolutely amazing. He is so talented.

I saw it with my 19 yr old DS. He knew about none of it (and I didn't realize that was what the movie was about, it was a spur of the moment choice). So I'm going to guess virtually nothing. He's a pretty well read/educated kid--ok, young man--and he knew nothing about Sharon Tate.

Lots of kids of celebrities in this flick.
I had to look it up to see who she was in the movie. I disagree about the "scene stealing performance". She's good, but not that remarkable IMO. She is very pretty though.
I read an interview with her where she talked about how horrified she was that she had to flaunt her feet in the car scene. Apparently she was a ballet dancer and is embarrassed by the state of her feet. Brad Pitt and Tarantino had to convince her that they aren’t so bad.
I thought she was fine, in the same way that a million other pretty girls would have been fine in that role. She’s yet another young actor who got where she is thanks to her famous parents.

The movie was a bunch of vignettes, some more poignant than others. But the parts were greater than the whole, IMHO.
